Onan gasoline generator vs. gas tank capacity

Our RV has a 75 gallon gas tank. Gas gauge was reading low. Generator would not start. Gauge said: 1/4 full when at rest and 1/8 full when driving to gas station.

Filled up and it took 57 gallons to get to FULL. My guess is that there were 15 to 18 gallons in gas tank when the generator failed to start.

Gas gauges are not always accurate and there could have been anywhere between 9 to 18 gallons left as I was driving to the gas station.

Anyone have any data on their Nationals in this respect?

How far down into the gas tank does/did the Onan generator fill tube go?

Thanks

Most fuel lines for the generator is approximately at the 1/4 tank level. Probably why you failed to start.

Yes, this is actually a blessing. This way, you're not going to get stranded out in the boonies because your generator drank all the gas.

When my coach consumes 50 gallons of gas, my generator no longer picks up the gasoline. How do I know it's 50 gallons. My generator shut down when pulling off the off-ramp to get gasoline on one trip. It took 50 gallons. The generator has consistently shut down when I have approx 350 miles on a tank. My gauge is not very accurate. It does not come off of the full mark until I travel anywhere from 100 to 140 miles. When the needle shows half a tank, it usually takes 50 gallons and like your motorhome, I have 75 gallons.

half tank

I have been told not to use the generator unless your tank is half full

My Nat has a 75 gal tank. The genny will quit at 1/4 on the gauge. What you experienced is the way it was designed and should be.
