1999 National Dolphin Coach. Right rear jack came down and hit the ground while driving. The jack got bent and the large spring on the side was broken. I contacted extended warranty for replacement and was told when the spring broke it made the lift crash to the ground and only the spring would be covered and not the entire jack. Can anyone tell me what caused this to happen?

I found that Power Gear jacks have had many problems over the years. I do not know what to do at this point. Called Power Gear only to get a recording. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. This is my first RV. I bought it about 3 years ago.

Thank's

I'm not sure on your jacks, but on electric jacks there is a pin that can shear and when it does the jack falls.

Sorry for both your problems.

1. You have Power Gear jacks, even though yours are hydraulic they are still Power Gear. A good repair shop will have a "secret" number for Power Gear to order parts.

2. Like so many others you have an extended warranty that usually will not cover much. Even if they cover the spring it won't meet your deductible so they aren't out a cent. Another reason to set aside the money you pay for these warranties. Actually its an insurance policy.

Good luck and keep us posted on the outcome.

I have a '99 Pace Arrow with Power Gear levelers and one of the cylinder return springs broke.
On mine, fortunately, it was parked and leveled at the time. I was able to order a spring from Power Gear at that time but they have since stopped selling to end users. (If I'm wrong then someone please let me know because I could use a seal kit for the front cylinder.)
The spring retracts the cylinder so when yours broke it probably worked it's way out while you were traveling and finally dug into the road.
Sounds like you need a complete cylinder for yours because bending a rod that way will usually damage the cylinder tube. They are not difficult to work on if you have room to get to the bolts. There is only one hydraulic line and 6 - 8 bolts to remove then reverse the process to install the new cylinder. Cycle the levelers a couple of time to purge the air from the new cylinder, check the hydraulic fluid level in tank at the pump and add Dexron III ATF as needed.

Good luck

Mark

Yep, you'll need a new jack. And, no, Power Gear won't talk to you.
