Power Gear Levelers

Has anyone replaced and then bled the hydraulic oil used in the leveler system? The system is a Power Gear system installed in a 2005 DolphinLX. The original manual says that it should be replaced every 36 months but a revised manual now says it should be replaced every 24 months. I seem to be overdue regardless. The problem seems to be that after the coach is leveled, it slowly loses it's stability over a three or four day period. It was like this when new and NRV replaced all the valves during a factory visit on the one year anniversary. It seemed to be fine but is gradually returning to it's old ways. I tried calling PG but they refer you to the web site and also tell you right up front that they no longer sell parts directly to consumers.
Any ideas?

Does your manual tell you how to maintain the oil level in reservoir? If oil was low may have gotten air in lines some jacks have bleeder nuts to back off to escape air but your reservoir has to be full.

KentM,

Maybe I have just been lucky, but I have replaced the two front, leveling jacks, (at different times), in my 2005 Fleetwood and have not had any problems with the hydraulic oil. I didn't even have to "bleed" any air out! seems to me, I read somewhere that the system is "self-bleeding". Anyway, mine work fine, but I just have to be sure that the resevoir stays full. I have never (in the 3 years of ownership) just changed the hydraulic oil. Didn't know I was supposed to. My system is also "Power Gear".

These jacks do not have bleed valves. The manual simply says to loosen the connection at the jack end and run the pump to make sure no air is in the line. This is going to require that the reservoir be maintained while you do this. My concern is that moisture could be in one of the lines. It is an absolute requirement that you keep the reservoir full or you will not be able to shift out of PARK when you are ready to travel. I just figured that if I was going to go to the trouble of checking the individual lines for air or moisture, it would be a good time to replace all the fluid. This process has all the possibilities of becoming a mess if not done correctly. I was hoping to find someone who may have attempted it in the past.

That only means you didn't read the owners Manual.

Go to Power Gear web site, technical documents, pick the mfg (National) and leverlers. It should take you to a list of technical papers. I don't understand why the link is not working.

Jim, that still doesn't work. The one in my previous post takes you to that page.
But I did not find any info that was helpful.

If yours is like mine find the tank for the jacks there is a drain plug on the bottom. Pull the plug drain replace plug refill with full synthetic trans fluid (Mercon V ) Use jacks to raise and lower RV 4 or 5 times and your done.
