My thanks to Dale at My RV Parts Place Home Page He got the part to me very quickly, and since I was in his area he even delivered it to me...This is in my opinion ...SERVICE...and it is indeed rare in these times....
It was very nice to meet him...
I had a problem installing it the day he delivered it and I called him late in the evening to see if I could get some assistance installing it...He came back the next day and at a very reasonable cost got it installed for me...
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND doing business with Dale...I will again...

Glad to hear of your successful slide unit transplant. I have just ordered a replacement drive unit for our coach today from myrvpartsplace. I emailed them to verify if the units being shipped had the lower RPM motor, and got a reply right away on Sunday morning no less.
The pile of bronze metal shavings is getting bigger under the worm gear, so it's time to buy the insurance. Too bad you have to spend so much to fix something that should have been designed better to begin with.

two2go,
What model replacement drive unit did you purchase from myrvpartsplace? Have you had any other parts replaced pryor to replacing unit? Had our bedroom slide unit replaced by National before they closed. Haven't had any problems with new slide unit.

I ordered the LPS-32127L-FR. They are out of stock now, but it is supposed to ship on 1/8. I am still using the original drive unit with the bronze worm gear. No broken teeth or shear pins so far--just the wear of the teeth slowly over time. Also, the drive is very loud when operating. Don't know if that is typical, but I hope the new one will be less dramatic.
The tech guy emailed me some tips for installation. He also told me it would take an experienced tech about 3.5 hours to R&R the drive unit. That means if I do it, it will take 3.5 days. Glad to hear the new ones work well, especially with the 30 rpm motor.

I got the replacement drive unit from myrvpartsplace really fast. Great service. I looked at it and the layout under the bed and decided the job was better left to pros. I took the coach to a local RV service shop (Newmar, since the former NRV dealer is so far away). They installed the new drive in 2 hours shop time, which I thought was reasonable. Overall, I've got a bit over $700 in this fiasco--not too happy about a defect that the original supplier should make right, but what can you do? I got this done just in time. The original worm gear had one tooth completely broken off and the others were ground down noticeably.
Anyway, the new drive is sure a lot smoother and quiet. Hope it lasts. I saved the old unit in case I or someone comes up with a clever mod. Or maybe the motor is worth something to somebody? Or maybe I have an interesting yard sculpture??

Peace of mind is priceless.
I inspected my unit the other day, no evidence of gear wear nor metal shavings. The unit was replaced at NRV in 2007, looks like a good unit.
