We recently purchased a 2003 Dolphin 5355 with a fiberglass roof and we've discovered a leak where the satellite dish is attached. We can't use Eternabond because the cables are situated such that it's very difficult to get good access under them.

I have some Dicor Self Leveling Lap Sealant that we purchased for pur previous rubber roof, but don't know if that's good (or best) for fiberglass.

Can anyone share their recommendations for the BEST CAULKING or Sealant? Has anyone else had good luck trying to seal these difficult areas?

Thanks for the recommendations.
Susie

Susie,
I've used Dicor self leveling 501 lap sealant with good results.

Dicor! Camping World or a local RV dealer parts house should have it. There is a self-leveling type and one that is not. The "not" version is used for vertical surfaces and the self-leveling is for everything else.

Dicor is great stuff, but it MUST be applied to a very clean surface or it will peel off in a very short time. I've found that if you clean up all of the old sealant and sand the roof and the edge of whatever it is that you want to seal, the Dicor will last for years without peeling off.

Good Luke

Nester & Susie,
As M&EM and others have said, clean and lightly sand roof surface then use Dicor self-leveling 501 sealant.

I have found that after removing the old sealant, cleaning the surface with mineral spirits provides good adhesion. You will have to clean the surface after sanding, this eliminated a lot of extra work.

Thank you to all of you who responded to my question!! I'm glad we got so many votes of confidence on the Dicor product that we already owned. We scraped, sanded and cleaned... and found that the previous seal was not so great. Hopefully ours will last a bit longer.

Best to everyone and hope to be a future contributor after all these lessons.

Happy travels,
Susie

p.s. Hi Ed... I see you're out there listening see you in Pechanga!!
