Recommendations for Surge Guard 50 amp?

Apparently my 50 amp surge guard died this past weekend. From working perfectly at home to not working at our camp site the 8 year old TRC 34750 would only register line 1 & 2 with the red lights, blinking 3rd red light but no caution or green light and no power to the coach. I went to move it and there was a crackling sound. The campground sent an electrician to check the service and found nothing that should have caused this. None of the other campers had any issues with the power. TRC customer service said the unit was damaged somehow (???). I plugged directly into the pole after the electrician assured me it was safe and had no issues in the 4 days we were there but was a nervous about it the entire time.

Which 50 Amp surge protection do you recommend? The TRC 34750 is heavy and bulky so I wondered if the smaller ones now give good protection.

Thank you for any advice or input.

Sandi

Have you had a chance to try it on a known good power supply?
I have a TRC 34750-001-LCD and have had it save me several times. I wouldn't use one of the entry level ones.
Here is a link to a troubleshooting guide.

My 30 amp Surge Guard died after 3 years. I replaced it with a Progressive unit. They have a limited life time warranty, where as Surge Guard is only 1 year.

Thank you JJ, but I am not an electrician and would have no idea how to even start.

Bill, after hearing the cracking sound from the surge guard box I would be uncomfortable using it again. TRC said it was damaged and not to use it.

Pepper2, I will check into the Progressive units. Thank you
