When I bought my MH it had carpeting, not even a bad color. The problem was it was a bit worn and had a few stains. The other problem was the MH was from Arizona. I bought it from the sweetest old couple who really loved the coach. They were in their upper 90's and just couldn't do the maintenance anymore. They had the coach in a carport and left the windows open to keep it from getting hot. There was desert dust on EVERYTHING! It sat with the windows open for the last year they owned it.

This is what I found when I pulled up the carpet.

The old carpet.

Carpet gone bye-bye.

We installed this to make cleaning easier. It isn't glued down. Just rolled it out and trimmed around the coach. It was a remnant piece I got for under $50. We plan to install laminate after we get some wear out of this stuff.

We are in the process of replacing the lovely blue carpet also in our 98 dolphin. We looked into the allure type flooring originally but were told that it would be more difficult than carpet due to all the corners involved and were also told that the allure type didn't seem to hold up as well if it was installed in a moving vehicle and in cold temperatures, it seemed to crack easily? anyways, we had found a carpet layer to recarpet an rv we previously owned and it wasn't easy but we did find another carpet layer that agreed to take on this rv. He said the hardest part was going to be the slideout and suggested we at least stick with as low of carpet and pad that we could handle so we ended up with something similar to commercial low weave. we found one with just a small amount of blue specks so we wont have to replace all the upholstery as it should tie it all in together but Blue will not longer overwhelm you.

I hade my tradewinds done with allure and am having a serious issue with the joint seperating. The locking system on the joints isn't very big. when you put ths slide out it pulls the seams apart. it is also seperating length wise. I will have to jack up the slide to knock it together and then i think i will staple it in some inconspicious places to hold it from moving as much.

Just curious but what color was the carpet when you bought the motorhome?Reminds me of a customer I had that bought a cabinet .It was exactly what she wanted except it was the wrong size and she didn't like the color.

HAHAHAH!!! I've had customers like that... The carpet was blue when we bought it, but we couldn't pass up the deal we got on it... It was 1/2 the price these MHs usually go for, so we couldn't pass up the deal...

There was a guy down in San Juan Bautista that was doing peoples coaches for 6 or 700 labor plus materials. I know of two that he did and he did a very nice job. We are about ready to do ours and will look this guy up in the spring. No sense putting new carpet in during the wet dirty winter. We also thought of laminate but think the floor will be to cold in the winter months.

Go to my profile and see my website. I discuss flooring in detail on that site.

We need to do something with the carpeting in our 98 Alpine and were considering a laminate floor but are giving it second thoughts due to road noise. I've looked at quite a few threads regarding replacing the flooring in motor homes and nowhere am I seeing anything regarding this issue....or is it an issue?

Has anyone run into this problem.

We replaced the carpet in our Class C with a laminate hard wood type flooring, it was a bit noiser but we threw down some area rugs and really didn't bother us much... It was much easier to shake the rugs and run a broom through the house than it was to cary around a vacuum cleaner, fire up the generator and then worry about mud and dirt...
WE're going back to that now... just to expensive to have it done, and to do it ourselves is just a lot of work i'm not sure we're up for...

I am wondering, but has anyone taken into consideration the difference in weight between carpet and flooring.I have thought about it and have even tried to figger out the weight based on the square feet that I'm replacing.Hey,go pick up one of those boxes of allure or laminate and feel how much they weigh. I have a friend that installed Italian tile in his and couldn't figure out where some of his fuel mileage had gone.
I just discovered a leak under the front corner of the front slide and the carpet is starting to pull loose and come apart,so I'm gonna check with my insurance guy to see if my homeowners will cover it.

I just replaced carpet in a Storm and they had a leak in the same place. Pulled the old carpet and the floor had rotted away. Had to replace part of floor and client was going to get leak fixed.
The difference in weight is like adding a couple guests to your coach for a ride. Nothing to worry about.
