My 2003 Tradewinds refrigerator and ice maker ran off the inverter while driving until I had recent generator work done and now it won't for some reason. So I guess my answer is yes

Interesting, I tried to run mine on the inverter and it wouldn't. Thinking of changing the plug position of the fridge to see if that would help.

I don't know the wattage of the inverter National used in the '99 TW. However, I'm pretty sure it was never wired to the fridge back then. If the inverter has enough wattage, you could certainly wire it to the fridge. You could also install a separate dedicated inverter just for it.

Why exactly to you want to do this?

Hello, thanks for the input. I believe I have a 2500 watt output. The reason I would like to run the fridge from the inverter is because I am full timing at the moment and pretty static. As I work on a transformer with a 240 volt input I turn off the shore power at night and would like to conserve the gas the fridge uses.

Ok, that makes sence I guess. It's just a fridge doesn't use much gas overnite. Anyway, 2500w would be plenty to run the fridge if you don't get crazy with the other items you use it for. Of course you'll need a good battery bank to support that.

Now you either need to wire a new circuit from the inverter to the fridge, or you could tap into an existing one if the fridge wouldn't overload it. You might first want to check behind the fridge to see if you have an alternate outlet for the inverter. That of course would be perfect.

The other option would be to put another inverter behind the fridge. Of course either option is going to be some work and a chunk of money, either of which would probably not be cost effective over gas savings for several years. If you need to run the genny for battery re-charge vs free electric, it never would be.

Great Advice

Hello, I believe I have a good battery bank and I’ve looked behind the fridge and there is a 110 volt supply to the fridge and a separate plug for the ice maker. When you suggest looking for an alternate outlet from the inverter can you give me an idea of what I am looking for, and when you mention the option of a separate inverter, do you know what the fridge draws? The reason I would like to go with the inverter option is, although I have rigged up a conversion to bottled gas ( bypassing the onboard tank) I tend to stay put for long periods and it is a bit of a pain to get in and out of where I am situated just to get out and buy onboard gas. The costs you mention if I can go the inverter route would only be my time and learning how to go about it, over here you have to learn how to do things yourself.

make sure its not a low cost MD inverter you can get a fire that way as some type of
fridges dont like it

if you have to run a MD inverter make sure its a good % high cost filter inverter

i know a SW inverter has a high cost but you would get more run time
