we are new to motorhomes, have a 2004 national seabreeze,8.01 chevy engine, w22.
i would like to do my own service. can you go through what a good service would include on this motorhome..what type of oil is recommended, do most change oil every 3,000 miles, how many quarts of oil for this engine. it has an allison transmission and fluid was changed when i purchased it with 4,000 miles on the odometer, what filters are needed for the allison, how often should the generator be serviced and what does this include. i looked under the service threads but most of info seemed to be for diesel engines. i have a diesel truck and have always done my own sevice, so if i can get a list of what motorhome service needs i would appreciate it. walter

I do my own service on my 8.1, I like Mobil 1 10/30 , uses less oil, about 1/2 quart in 1,500 miles. Changed the trans over to Transynd synthetic. Don't forget to change your brake fluid.
Good luck.

I do all my own service. I use Amsoil products and use their best synthetics, change every 6000 miles or 6 months. Pretty much stay up with the WH maintenance otherwise. i.e. -Brake Fluid, Antifreese, etc.

Spend some time reading the stickies and other forum posts, especially the Workhorse and NRV forums. Most of your questions have been well covered. Did you get a complete set of manuals with your coach? National had pretty good manuals and included all the component manuals. Download the Workhorse Motorhome Chassis Guide (see Workhorse sticky). Spend a few hours reading and you will be a service zen master.

You may also want check the brakes. Your motor home is probably involved in the bosch brake recall. The brakes need to be checked for a brake caliper sticking problem which causes the brakes to overheat and sometimes lock up when they get hot. In extreme conditions the brake rotors may show signs of cracking. Not all w-22's are experiencing this problem...usually only the ones that are not driven very often.

Good luck with your new coach.

Bill
