Just now saw the description "Freestanding Kustom Fit leather swivel recliner chair with footrest" on the features/specs printout.
I had pushed on it previously. It did not move and thought it was secured to the floor. I pushed/pulled some more and it does move.....but it is heavy.
Does it need to be secured to the floor with a adjustable clamp of some sort?
Thank you

My Euro style swivel recliner sat on carpet, was not secured and never moved.

Our rocker/recliners aren't bolted to the floor. That hasn't been a problem at all.

Probably the only time the straps will keep help keep it stationary is during a collision or rollover

In a TT or Fiver I might leave one unsecured. But in a MH I believe all furniture should be secured at least to the point that it won't come forward in an emergency stop and/or frontal collision.

During a head on collision it shouldn't bother the driver any. If it is on the passenger side.

Yes. All seems very well if you are never in a collision or emergency stop.

Lots of MHs are delivered with freestanding furniture: dining area chairs, recliners, etc. IMHO if there was an emergency stop fast enough to "throw" these pieces at the driver he would probably have even more serious issues to deal with like having been thrown through the windshield. Not to make light of the issue, but I don't think my Euro-recliner is going to move enough to be a concern.

Just be aware that in a deceleration, the weight of the object doesn't determine whether or not it will move. The force applied to it is proportional to its weight and the rate of deceleration. Holding it down in normal conditions is its weight. The weight cancels out in the "will it move" calculation.
The amount of damage it will do when it hits you in the back of the head is a function of its weight.
Having done a lot of deceleration analysis for airplane crashworthiness (and seen the results of 9g decel) I would have all the furniture clamped or bolted down before moving the rig.
This was a major reason for us looking for a rig with a dinette rather than loose table and chairs.

About 4 years ago, there was a set of about 25 high quality photographs of a large (40 ft. +) MH (I think Provost) after a head on with a medium size SUV. The people in the MH were OK - I think the driver had some leg injuries from the dash. But what was amazing is how all the furnature - everything including what was screw to the top/ceiling, side and floor, ripped loose and came smashing forward. It was only because of the delux cockpit chairs that the MH occupants were not killed, from behind. Basically the inside of the coach was one big wood pile along with all the contents that were in all the compartments.
I would not drive with a small dining room chair or any size or shape of recliner that was not fastened down. Our recliner/rocker has a couple of straps that fasten it to the floor. Yes, with artificial knees, it is a pain in the butt (well really knee) to get down and fasten the straps, but we have figured how to fasten them while standing outside the coach, then the straps are just about chest level.

We recently swapped out our sofa for a reclining loveseat. Hubby welded steel bars to the metal loveseat frame and ran them to a back bar where the the seatbelts are screwed into the floor.

Scooter---mine has never been fastened down and has never moved; we all, the chair, me, my dog and my wife, have been through one panic stop and frankly until this moment I never considered the chair---evidently it just sat there unbothered.
That does not mean maximum safety would not indicate a way to fasten it but as with the other description in a head on crash I have no idea how the hanging cabinets full of dishes etc; will stay in place---I think the washer/dryer is going to be on its way forward, qlong with the refridgerator.
Our chair is snugged up against the back of the passenger seat and against the wall when we move. We have the larger passenger chair option which is considerably wider than the lounger where it sits. Supposedly this might provide some protection---but a headon---I pretty much considered such a thing would just ruin our entire day and that would be that. Anything that hit above the engine is kind of coming right on through---which is why I drive very defensively and at reasonable speeds far behind whatever is in front of me. No guarantees.
