Tonight, our 6 year old granddaughter tried to open the shower door by pulling on the towel bar instead of the handle. Surprise! The glass door shattered. Next door camper helped my husband clean up all the glass.
Their conversation kept going to the subject of, "How come it's made of glass instead of something else, when it is subjected to so much bouncing and jolts with the wonderful roads we have here in the USA?"
Any one else have this experience?
Think just a regular glass shop can replace the glass?

We have a grandson nick named "earthquake"----he can do more damage than a silly road any day of the week.
NAtional put pretty good stuff in their MH's so that is why glass---and I've not heard of one breaking before----but now I have.
Contact a local glass company they should be able to do it----or call the manufacturer of the original---their decal is on the door I believe. It is tempered glass that breaks into little pieces---of course.
Good luck---I'm sure you will get responses form someone who knows a lot about glass---which I do not---but I know and love grandkids 10 of them.

True it is tempered glass and a local glass can most likely take care of it for you. I have never had one break in my coach, but I am a retired glass company owner for 15 years. Food for thought you might think about having a piece of laminated glass installed. It adheres to all safety issues and will stay together in the door if it ever breaks

This ties to our Good Ol' Days thread: I had a cowork recently have this same event, at a South American hotel. His injuries were so severe, due to the fact that the 3/8" thick glass was the old fashioned variety, broke into deadly shards. It took a cool head to control profuse bleeding, clear a path to the phone; all while wet and unclothed.
I'm glad the story had a happy ending, will remember the laminated glass tip!

I can not comment on why it is glass, However that is very common.
There are several types of glass you should consider, Herculite (TM) (I think that is what it is called) is one of the glasses that high school basketball backboards are made of, Due to the structure of the glass when it shatters instead of shards that can and do do damage it honeycombs, you can walk on it barefoot in fact.. Laminated is the other one I'd recommend, like the glass shop owner above
Herculite,, Pittsburgh Plate Glass as I recall from when my mother used to order it by the ton for one of the companies that make said backboards (She was head of accounting, Long time ago though)

Home Depot or Lowe's will cut plexiglass to your specifications. The draw back is that it scratches easily. Most household storm doors have plexiglass in them.

 Thanks for all your replies.
Hung a curtain for now. Kinda like the looks of that SHUB, but don't know if it will fit.

Think about taking out the doors and frame and putting a shower curtain. Less weight, safer and no more banged elbows.

Went to Target, had to spend about 8 bucks for a shower curtain and rings. Best part, cut the curtain in half so we'll have a new one when needed!
So far, so good!
