I was working on the inside of my 1998 Sea View with the slide out and notice it was not extended all the way. Tried to put it out the remaining 2 inches and it made a horrible noise. Tried putting it in and it sounded fine. Tried out again and wouldn't move just made grinding noice. Did manage to get it all the way in fine but won't go out at all. I am hooked up to 20 amp house power and MH is not perfectly level. Could that be the problem? Tried with the generator running, tried with the MH running still didnt work. I did notice that the gears under the slide do not have any grease on them at all. We just bought the MH a month ago from a repo site so we dont know much about it. This is probably the 5th or 6th time we have had the slide out and we didnt have any problems before. Any ideas?

Not sure if you have this information from Power Gear Link below. Do not use grease to lube the gears, use dry film lube or silicone spray. Good luck

I'm afraid the "horrible grinding noise" might not be cured with lube alone. If you can't get to the source of the noise, I'd refer you to a RV tech before you cause even more damage.

Thanks for the info, calling the RV shop tomorrow. We are just totally stumped on what could be wrong. It moved back in just fine. It kinda sounds like a starter in a car when I try to put it out. Like the gears are not engaging.

Is it possible that the lock is partially engaged and is grinding?

Slide is working again yea. Husband took motor off, looked at the gears put it back together and it started working. I am thinking maybe the brake was just stuck? Since we know nothing about rv's we didn't think to check it.
