Hey Guys and Gals,
New to the forum but have lurked for a couple of months and have used much of the advise and wisdom I have seen here to put together my 2008 National Pacifica in tip top shape. Thank you!! Now I have a problem with my floor slide above the steps. The motor is weak and needs replacement, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get to it!! There is no access above or below the motor that I can see. Any ideas?? I'm pulling out my hair here.
Thank you,
Dennis

Keep us posted with how you work this out. We also have a 2008 Pacifica & the step cover always needs a bit of help when extending. Not too much of a bother at the moment but will probably get worse as time goes by.
Thanks,
Marilyn

When I replaced the carpet I removed the step cover by extending it and removing the bolts from below.Stand outside and the bolts will be accessable when the cover is extended. The motor and mechanism is visible when you lift the cover off.

Thanks Bob
I've been watching this thread and hoping someone would give just the concise answer you did. Real useful info.

Thanks guys,
Sorry got called out of town for work, but started playing with it again last night. I've found you have to remove the rubber stoppers on the motorhome, and run the step out while pulling up on it until it completely unscrews off of the motor. Once the step is out you have access to four bolts that the whole motor and screw assy is attached to the motor home. You really have to stretch your arm in the recess to get the last two nuts out, but that frees the whole assy up. Only problem now is how to get to the wires on the motor!! Hoping to get a chance to tonight to get under the motorhome and see if there is any access to the wires as they stop the motor assy from coming out and are in way too far to reach from the steps.
Thanks for the help and I will keep you updated barring anymore unforseen work trips!!
Dennis

Today I put mine out enough to unbolt it and pulled the slide out to remove the carpet. Trying to talk the boss into letting me try one of two mods since the thing moves as slow as me.
1. cover area up with laminate and install a hand removeable cover, stow it between pass. seat and wall when not traveling.
2. Take out the hardware and make it a manual slide cover where it can be slid in and out as needed.
Mine appears to have the motor enclosed with fiber glass. Will look under it for access on Weds.

Had a little time this afternoon and started really looking at the slide motor and the screw drive that moves the slide in and out. Found the screw threads pretty dirty and the nut attached to the tube was also pretty dirty that the screw shaft moves through. I used some spray brake cleaner to clean both peices and let it sit until dry. I sprayed some dry lube on the screw shaft and the nut and then pushed the switch and found it worked much faster. Tomorrow I'm going to look for some nylon bushings to attach to the slide sides to see if this will move it better.

I have an '08 Pacifica also and had the same problem. Getting that motor out is quite a problem. I had to cut an access hole to get to it. After I got it replaced I found an easier way to do it, but it would take a lot of typing at which I a very slow. I live in the Denver area where do you live, or we could talk over the phone and I could explain how to do it. My e-mail address is ckirk39@comcast.net

Hopefully, this works so you can see what I did to make my stair slide move better by adding the 1/2" nylon spacers. National didn't have a great idea when they didn't center the screw drive for the stair slide and then didn't make sure there was no bind on the shaft on the vertical movement. If this pic came out I hope it helps others, mine sure moves better. Today I'm going to figure out something to offset National's mistake in not centering the drive so that the slide glides straight instead of to one side.
