Slide topper spring unwound! Help

We were replacing the slide topper and had the spring locked with a small allen wrench. The wrench was too small and ended up breaking and the spring came unwound. Luckly my face was out of the way! I can't find a starting point on how many times to wind the spring to get started again. Any and all suggestions would be helpful. Thank you! This is on the large slide on a 2000 National Tropical.

Went out and did it today. We found that counting the other side was the trick. For our particular setup it was 11 full turns. Hope this helps someone in the future.

Thanks for the info. I want to replace my slide topper also, how hard of a job was it to do? Where did you get the replacement?

Try Tough top awnings, Have had real good luck with them ,had mine for six years and live full time with slides out except when moving.
lot better than the other brands, and more reasonable.
