...ours has stopped running. To be specific, it's stopped running on demand. Flipping either switch (there's one on the main control panel and one in the bathroom) does not result in a "PUMP ON" light, and it doesn't run.

However, we're hooked up to the city water, and sometimes when the shower or faucet is running, I'll hear the pump kick in for a moment or two, all by itself. The pump is a new ShurFlo that was installed just over a year ago, so I assume it's not DOA.

I'm not even sure where to begin, but I know I'd better figure it out before winter gets here and the standpipe freezes! Any thoughts?

Have you tried disconnecting from the city water to see if the pump will run? Your pump likely won't run while on city water because the pump will only run when there is a demand or low water pressure, and while on city water the pump does not have to supply either.

Also perhaps the light in the switch has burned out so you DO have power to the pump, but there isn't a demand for water (because you are on city water) so the pump won't run.

Failing all that making the pump run I would next check the fuse and/or put a test light on the + wire at the pump to see if there is power to the pump and go from there.

Hope this helps you out.
Jimmy

Thanks, Jimmy. I did disconnect from the city water; the pump did not run.

Then I would start looking at the power starting with the fuse; if the fuse is good see if there is power at the pump.
