My rear furnace fan motor has started squealing upon turning on. It gets "better" the longer it is on, but it is still annoying. Anyone else have/or has had this issue? How hard to get at the bugger in my '99 Tradewinds? Is it a simple matter of oiling the bearings, or are they sealed (as I suspect) and a new unit has to be purchased?

Access depends more on the furnace brand rather than the coach, for the most part the motor is a bic, as the brgs are not oilable from the factory. Having said that I'll follow it up with ; I have had some sucess with pulling the motors, a fiddily process, make sure you pull all the fuses before you start, mark the top side of the motor before you remove, and drill a small hole into the brg housing above the shaft. Surrounding the bronze bushing that the shaft runs on is a felt packing that holds the lube for the bushing, some oil drops through the hole, alowing time for them to soak in, seal the drilled hole with silicone and allow to dry. Sit overnight and bench test. If the squeel is gone re-install. If not your off for a replacement. Good luck.

Our furnace squealed until I oiled the bearings with WD-40. While rotating the fan by hand, I added the oil. Then I started the furnace & added more oil. That was several years ago. I did not take anything apart. The squeal has not come back. The furnace was a Excalibur HydroFlame.
