This was our last upgrade. I hope everyone liked what we did over the course of 12 months, we sure enjoyed doing it to make it our home.

I lied, Joe was right. I've been noticing the panel on the back of our kitchen penninsula was looking a little tired so I decided to use some real maple veneer that is self adheasive (a 3M product) and do a stain match. The first step was to remove the grab handle and duct vent. I cut the material to fit and will stain and varnish the material after I install the veneer tomorrow. More pictures to follow. This photo is of the old "paper" veneer.

The panel project went smoother than I thought it would. My DW and I cut the veneer to fit and adhearing it to the old back of the penninsula was easy. I used a light stain that gets the color pretty close to the maple cabinets then put on 3 coats of polyurethane. I added a cove and small decorative moulding to finish off next to the wall and at the floor. Yesterday I had both of the slide topper fabric replaced and the hardware upgraded. I better not say anything about the last upgrade.

Oh go ahead, Dan. We all know you will keep doing those projects until you stop RVing, and you gotta keep this thread alive.

Looks like more great work! I showed DW your pics and now will be putting tile in the kitchen. She found some nice tile at COSTCO.

Mind sharing the specs of veneer and where you bought it? Also what stain you used to match the original maple?

The veneer is available on line, just google "self adheasive veneer". It's
about 1/32" thick and has 3M adheasive on the back with a peel off paper. I lucked out and found a local lumber specialty supply here in Las Vegas that stocked it in a 2'x8' sheet. The stain is Minwax Golden Pecan 245. I wish I would have used 2 coats of the stain before I did the varnish as it's a tad light but still ok.

We are heading out tomorrow for Tecopa Springs, CA to stay for 2 months. Lots of soaking in the hot springs.

That is a great idea, we ended up replacing ours with wainscotting.
