Steps

Just bought a 2003 Dolphin. Love the MH so far. My steps do not seat underneath the MH the way they should. They do not completely retract. Is there a fix for this? Thanks, Ron

Here's a couple of posts that talk about step issues

We have the same problem with our steps - in that they don't retract all the way without a little help while closing.

One thing that you can do, that did help our steps a little:

- extend the steps
- put some cardboard underneath
- over a couple of days, spray all the joints with WD-40. This isn't for lubrication, but rather to clean them out.
- cycle the steps intermittantly while you're cleaning them to work in the WD40 and work out the gunk.
- After you have them cleaned up, get a can of Kwikee Step Lube. This is a spray grease in a can. Where is excels versus WD-40 for this situation is that it sprays on, but is heavier and retains its grease properties, therefore staying in all the spots where you spray it.

If that doesn't completely solve it, I would take a look at the grounds for the stairs and then start looking at replacement parts - step motor, controller, gearbox, etc

I'll be working more on our steps once the weather in the Northeast warms up.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

With the step in the closed position push on it to see if the gear box is worn. If so you can buy the part needed. I also had a broken bracket so I opted to replace the entire unit. I was glad that I did the gear box as I remember was expensive and the replacement even though the cost was more replacement was my better choice.

As 2Labs said, a good lubrication will probably solve your problem. Happens to me all the time and I just us the Kwikee Step Lube. Also cold weather will sometimes make them not retract all the way. Also, sometimes you can solve the problem by standing outside and close the door. When the steps are retracting, give them a help by pushing them up with your hand. Do this several times. It sometimes loosens things up.

THANKS. Today I got a chance to do as you have suggested and now they are like new. They tuck under the MH perfect. And extend like they should.
Thanks again... thought this would not work but boy was I wrong.
