There are those that have and then there are those that will damage a storage compartment door by operating their slide with a storage compartment door(s) open. Today I install a safety power cutoff system for my slides whenever a door directly under a slide is open. I got the idea several years ago when a good friend damaged a door on his Islander. At the time I had a 1995 Dolphin without any slides but thought I would install cutoffs if I got a new RV with slides. It was very simple. I used inexpensive doom light switches (one for each door) all wired in parallel, connected to a relay. I used the relay contacts to interrupt one of the wires at the key switch. Now if any one of the monitored doors is open my slides will not operate.
Note: I would normally make this kind of modification only after damaging a door. May have saved myself some money.

Bill,
Good idea, I know that on my 01 Surfside that the doors under the slides had no struts or holding devise on them for that reason and my 07 Seabreeze has two stage struts installed at the location under the slide area. Even with the two stage struts you can have an accident if you don’t watch out.
