Thumbs down Surf Side Gas Mileage Awful - Help

We have a 2007 Surf Side with a Ford V10 in it, and the gas mileage is awful. We only get about 5 miles to the gallon, no matter if we tow or not. Has anyone had the same problem? Do you have any suggestions on getting better fuel mileage? Have had Chevy's before, but got way better mileage. Wish we would have never purchased a Ford.

What's your speed?

Have you changed you filters?

If you have an K & N air filter, clean the MAF and replace the filter with a standard filter.

This is a duplicate thread to one that is on the Ford Chassis Forum. Just saying.

Thanks for telling me about the Ford Forum. I am not a member of it, nor did I know about it. Still wish that I had stuck with a Chevy.

We drive 55 or 60 so I know that isn't the problem. I will check on the filters, but this has been the problem from the get go, and we purchased it new.

I would love to get 7.5. That would at least make me feel like I am not driving a piece of junk.

Thanks for the reply.

Cliff, just a suggestion. Use the symbol in the lower left corner of any post to report the post or thread to the forum moderators and administrators so that they can delete the duplicates, merge threads or move them as required.

That was your duplicate thread that you started on the iRV2 National Rally forum (???) that an administrator moved to the more appropriate Ford chassis forum.

Surf Side mileage

First thing is go to a well respected, authorized service center and have them check your engine! The 2007 Ford V-10 should get between 7 and 8.5 mpg in normal travel. 5 mpg IS very poor! Something is wrong!

I have a 2005 37', triple-slide Sea Breeze on the W-24 Chassis and average 7.5 mpg.

In your lighter weight chassis, you definitely should get better mileage!

Happy Trails!

Barry, this info is somewhat old, however it gives good comparisons. Owners tend to over oil K&N filters causing additional problems with the MAF.

Um, this might sound silly, but have you checked your brake adjustments to be sure they're not dragging, even slightly? Or the parking brake? Just a thought.
