Our toilet will only hold water if you let the foot pedal slam closed. Not good for the early morning pee breaks. I have tried all the cleaning and lubing of the ball flap and rubber. Is there a way to lubricate the actual mechanism outside the toilet? It would mean taking the toilet apart I think. There is nothing visible.

If you have a Sealand Toilet, here is an owners manual that might help. Rook

Even though I posted earlier that mine was holding water, it started losing water recently. I tried the hint about putting some of the tank deoderizer in the water in the bowl and leaving it sit for a while, now it's holding water again. The deoderizer says it breaks down waste and lubricates the valves and seals, so maybe it works on that ball seal?
