Does anyone have any thoughts on why its this way. I am thinking of fastening the tranny to frame for strength and maybe less vibration. The rv is 12 yrs old and works ok so maybe I should leave well enough alone.

If that's the way it was built and hasn't been a problem, then I'd leave it alone. Who, knows if you brace it to where it can't move, something may break.
I used to think it funny that the old VW Beetles had nothing to hold the engine in place, but 4 small bolts attaching it to the transmission/transaxle.
