Transfer Switch Not Holding

I recently had my transfer switch not holding when plugged into shore power. No load on it and it would just trip out as soon as the delay came on to energize. I had this happen on a return trip last yr but it quit. I took apart both contractors last yr and clean them with a brass brush which really didnít seem to need any cleaning at all. I suspected the solid state board in the transfer switch so I pulled up how to check the board and verified with the manufacturer on my findings and the board was bad. They shipped me a new board about $50 and all seams to be good. It was tight pushing onto the push connectors. Click image for larger version

The "delay" is for the generator to warm up a bit before taking on a load. Sounds like your transfer switch is in the wrong position when on shore power.

Transfer Switch Not Holding

No position. Yes on the generator delay. There is a procedure to check the board with an ohm meter to point to the board or the contactor and it proved the board was bad. I just wanted to post in case someone else may be having intermittent problems similar to this.Click image for larger version
