Ultraguard Modification 06 TropiCal LX

Our MH came with an Ultraguard rock guard installed. The Ultraguard is mounted to a bracket welded to the rear frame. The Ultraguard is 15 inches long and when we dump the air bags, the Ultraguard buckles under the coach. Over the years this has bent the mounting bracket.

So I am on a mission to modify the Ultraguards mounting. I have noticed a lot of people use a chained link which allows the rock guard to move when the air is dumped.

Looking for ideas! How is yours connected?

If yours is mounted like my 04 Tropi-Cal was, unbolt the Ultraguard from the L bracket. Drill the L brackets to accept an eye bolt and install eye bolt with loop down. You need to either bend the L plate attached to the Ultraguard flat or cut it off (you could probably just notch the area where you place the link). You can then drill holes in the plate and use chain link connectors Quick Links, Chain Links, Chain Connectors – Zoron MFG.
to connect to the eye bolts. Depending on the height of your motorhome you will most likely have to cut a few inches off the Ultraguard in order to keep it from dragging on the ground since you have lowered it a few inches.
