upgraded the big front tube TV to LED HDTV
Finially, I been saying I was going to do it, I did it. Came out pretty good too. Bought a 26" that fit from end to end of the front cabinet. Took the bottom plate that the original TV was attached to turned it more vertical, to match the angle of the existing cabinets, mounted a flat TV hanger to that (a static hanger) along with the flat screen and moved it back until the front of the TV was flush with the existing plastic trim. I did add a plywood plate to the top that I cut to match the front curve of the trim and all the way back to the square tube crossover and attched it to that and the side. Paiinted it flat black you can't even tell. On the bottom I took a black foam, covered it with speaker cloth, also black, this fills the bottom space and is useful not as a speaker, but a filller. I suppose I could have bought one of those long speakers and put there, but not. Took all day, but worth it. Great picture. I then reallized that I had to change out the rear as well, did that with a 19" LCD HDTV. Nice to be up to date. I have pictures, so if anyone is really interested perhpas I'll figure out how to post them.

I am very interested is seeing your pictures. I also have an 03 LX and have been looking for ways to install an HD flat screen in the front. The plastic trim has always been a problem in trying to come up with a neat install. I had always envisioned removing all the plastic and then trying to frame the opening in some way. Maybe I can forget removing the plastic when I see your pictures.
How much of problem did you have in removing the old TV? Just looking it appears heavy; a two man lift to get it out. Any specific problems I should be aware of?
Thanks,
Duane

OK, I'll have to figure out how to upload pictures then. But to get that 26 out, yes, I had to have my wife help me. It is heavy. Remove the plastic trim, then remove the stops at the upper corners left and right, then you have to push the whole TV forward about an inch and left it over it's stops that are on the bottom plate. The antennae cable was long enough to bring it out and rest the TV on my leg and then detach. But the electrical cable is not. Make sure you up plug the TV, I didn't, but no problem took my knife and cut the cable, but then you are suppose to turn the power off when you cut cable No harm done, it didn't even blow the breaker. You have to take your top unit out of it's place in the entertainment side to unplug the TV. You also need to remove your DVD (I had gotten an undated one a couple of years ago) and it takes all three RCA cables to get color on the HDTV. Not just the yellow one.
OK now to figure out the picture thing, any suggestions?

You can either click on photos from the top of the page and follow the instructions to take them off your computer or click on the icon from the top of the message text page to post one from an on line storage program.

I have both regular antenna and satellite, and of course the park hook up for cable.

OK, going to give it a try. The picture starts with me already placing the steel tray (that was for the original TV) in the vertical position. But you'll get he idea. You will see the big white cavity at the top. This is where I took a cardboard diagram cut to size made sure it fit real nice (even behind the lip of the plastic trim) and put the trim up to make sure. Then transferred this all to a piece of Masonite (easier to paint), used flat black. It's best to install it before you put the plate in (I didn't). I also had to remove the sheet metal trim you see on both sides to get to the machine screws to attach the base plate. It took time, but it's in good.
The last pictures shows a straight on shot. In these pictures I have not wrapped the foam in the bottom as yet, but still looks good. This is where you can decide to put the middle speaker of your surround sound if you want, I added mine to the bottom. Didn't' want to buy another speaker.
Wow, it worked, thanks for the picture size, had to reduce all mine,as I shoot large files in RAW format.

Post them large if you like they'll be posted a smaller size to fit the thread but for those interested they can click them on and view the larger picture.

Thanks for the pics. The install looks good; appears much easier than trying to frame the whole area. May have some questions in a month or so when I am able to try to duplicate your install.
Thanks again

My Tradewinds had a similar plastic frame. I found that if I pitched it, a 32 would just fit between the cabinet doors on each side. I found an angled mount, attached it to a piece of 3/4 plywood across the opening and mounted the TV almost flush with the slope of the front cabinet.
