it's a sensor for your thermostat.

Louise I had to ask the exact same thing a couple of weeks ago with my Newmar Mountain Aire. Then you think, "Well Duh", when you get the answer. LOL. But I learned along time ago, no question is dumb if you really need the answer. Thank goodness for the people here on this forum. They are the greatest.

Temperature sensor is correct. I read here somewhere but cannot find it now that if you want it to work better, remove the screws for the basket, make sure the little white end on the wire is protruding completely out of the hole in the wall then plug the hole in the wall to keep outside air from confusing the thermostat. When re installing the basket turn it 90 degrees so that the air can freely flow through it vertically. I did this with my coach and between the wall thermostat setting and a thermometer I have in the hall I only get about a one degree difference.

My wife thinks it's a place to hang clothes hangers. I have always had my doubts but know better than to argue,

Ha...I had the same question...what is this? So, I removed the cover and as soon as I saw it, I knew what it was.....it's officially called a Thermistor, it's an accurate temperature sensing device, usually to within 1 degree. It works with your AC and possibly your heater, as well.

It is a temperature sensor that connect to your thermostat. Works with both heat and A/C. Ours is located in the bedroom of our 5th wheel where it gets hotter and cooler quicker so we have to adjust thermostat to take that into account. Some have to be pulled out a little and turned sideways to work better. Do not block it or it will not work correctly.

I asked a technician in customer service at the National RV Factory what the "thingy) was. He told me it was the temperature sensor for the bedroom air conditioner. He also told me that the thermostat in the central hallway took care of the living room AC.
