Angry Weldex Backup Monitor Removal

I have a 2008 Dolphin, on my last trip the backup monitor just went blank. I have tested the cables and checked the camera. The camera still has sound and motion. The monitor powers up and controls the motion on the camera and sound works, just no picture/blank. I think the monitor is shot. I have loosened the one and only screw holding the montior in place in the dash. I have moved the monitor around enough to know there is nothing holding it in place. The hole in the dash is so tight I can't get the monitor to slide out of the dash. Has anyone removed one of these montors, and if so what is the secret. I am thinking I may have to remove the dash, and if so, has anyone removed the dash, if so how is it done. Thanks John

Weldex Backup Monitor Removal

Tom, No the backup monitor is a stand alone (Weldex WDRV-3067M) black and white. Built into the dash. The radio is a Jensen (Older) but completely seperate from the backup monitor. John

Had to replace the monitor and camera. 2006 Sea Breeze, monitor came out easily once the screws were removed. Purchased from RVCams in Louisiana , Tim was patiently helpful with my questions. Need pics of your dash, is there a removable panel on the upper part of the dash ?

Weldex Backup Monitor Removal

There is an access panel above the dash cluster, but it is to small for the monitor. Here is a pic I took of the dash.

I have a 2008 Dolphin and I have had the dash panel apart, I do have some pictures but not with me (traveling) and won't be home for awhile.
I'm surprised your monitor is a b/w unit but anyhow, my monitor is only about 1 1/2" deep and is just a press fit in the dash, it just came out from the front.

Legryz, Actually I beleive my Dolphin is a 2007, could explain the differnences. However, you say you have had you dash panel apart. Looking at my setup, picture above, it looks as if the front bezel of the entire dash just pulls off. is that correct? It appears to be either glued to the support structure of the Dash or velcro'd in place. Any information you can give me on how the thing come apart would be very helpful. I just needs to get it apart enough to remove the backup monitor. Thanks

I had to do this on a Southwind, The monitor has small raised areas on each side where an external type of bracket would screw into. The side clearance was so close I thought I would never get it out. Lots of force and left to right wiggles and it finally popped out. Good luck

The front dash panel besides being screwed, you'll find Velcro on the top edge, there's also a couple of metal brackets at the bottom near the steering column. To remove it completely you'll need to disconnect all the wire connection to the switches ( I took notes and pictures but the pictures were confusing) and also the instrument cluster.
Have you tried prying the monitor out of the bezel? Like I said mine is only press fit in the opening but mine is a color monitor so it may be different.
Hope this helps, anymore ??? please ask.

My 2006 Dolphin had the same issue, I was able to push the monitor back from the bezel then I took a dremmel to route out the tight fit. Once the unit was out I finished up dremmeling the front face of the dash so the monitor will slide in and out. Hope this helps...

Smile Solved "Weldex Backup Monitor Removal"

To get the Weldex Model WDRV-3067M monitor out of the dash, I had to loosen enough dash screws to allow me to pull the top of the dash bezel (which is velcro'd in place) away from the dash housing to pull the monitor out through the top of the dash. Success.

I thought about trying to fix the monitor, but then decided, I don't think I want to put it back into the dash. Probably would have to take it back out when it failed again.

Ordered new flat panel monitor from RVCAMS, should have it in hand on Wendesday. Thanks to everyone who responded to this threat, all comments were very helpful in determining my course of action.

Will it have the camera tilt mode?
