What is this

This knob or whatever it is is on my 2001 islander. There is a hose on the inside that appears to run down into at least the first compartment door. It's to the left of the gas file nozzle.

If that were a boat that would be the fuel vent. Assuming this is a DP it could be the same.

I've got the same setup on my Tradewinds including the screw on fuel cap. It's a vent.
