What's this switch for ??

At the entry steps to my rig, there is a switch panel that has my slide key, step switch, porch light switch, entry light switch, battery disconnect and another lighted switch labeled "compartment".

Looking in a National owner's manual, it is described as the "service compartment" light switch. I don't seem to have a light in the engine compartment or in either the wet bay or dump bay.

Any ideas out there??

regards,
Karl

Most likely the storage compartment lights. You may have to turn them on at the light itself, but after that you can use that switch.

On my 99 Dolphin the compartment switch is for all the basement and engine access lights. Turn the switch on at night you should see the lights on. Only compartments that don't have lights is generator and propane.

On my 99 Tradewinds it's for the Storage Bay Lights. They all come on with that stitch.

That is the "master switch" for the storage bay lighting. Most if not all will also have a local switch at the light.

Master compartment switch as other have mentioned. Also, our's lights up when in
the "ON" position just as a reminder that it is "ON".

Thanks for all the replies. I never noticed lights in any of the storage compartments. Will check it out more today. I noticed most the replies were from the higher-end National rigs. Is it possible that compartment lights an option on the Sea View models?

Well, I checked out all my basement storage compartments and there are NO lights in any of them. I couldn't find one in the engine compartment either (even at night!), so if it is there, it may be burned out.

I'm going to continue on the assumption that lighted compartments came standard on the higher end Nationals (Dolphin, Tradewinds) and possibly optional on the lower end models (Sea View, Sea Breeze). Since models shared much of the same 12V electronics, I assume they shared the same control panel. I'll try to chase down the output side of the "compartment" switch so I can put it to good use.

Love to hear from other Sea View, Sea Breeze owners.

Did you check the area around the generator? Look for light fixtures, the bulbs may be burned out even though the circuit is on.

Karlos,

I have a 99' Sea View and that switch operates the compartment lights.
