My 2001 Tradewinds is a great coach, but sometimes the wind noise we get from the door going down the road can be really loud. Do any of you have the same problem and what (if any) thing did you do to lessen the noise. It looks like at one time something was attached to the outside of the door frame as there are screw holes. Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

Joe,
We also have a 2001 Tradewinds 7390. We don't have this problem; My DW and I can easily carry on a conversation while going down the highway. I also have a friend with a 98 Tradewinds purchased new and he has the same problem you have and he has never been able to fix the problem, so he, too is looking for a solution.
You may or may not know in 2001 National changed doors in the middle of the production year. If I understand it correctly, the first part of the year they used a smaller door manufactured by National. That one has a shock absorber type cylinder at the bottom to hold the door when it is open. The later models have a larger door with the doorstop at the top and you have to pull up on the handle to release it to close the door.
A while back I saw two 7390s side by side on a consignment lot; one had a door like ours; the other had the larger door. I can't help you on the noise, but this is just info.

Have you tried moving the striker plate on the door frame further in to increase the pressure on the door gasket?

Larry,
I didn't know that there was a change of doors. I wonder if the other door would fit. I can't imagine them changing the side walls in the middle of a production year. I have also been looking for the rain gutter that would match the wide one that runs directly over the door. While we were in Newport OR a few weeks ago there was a 2001 Tradewinds 37' there and he had a deflector on his but it quit at the curve between the rain gutter and where the door went straight. He said he gets wind noise from that point.
Do you have the large closet in the bathroom or does your's have the washer in it?

Hi Joe,
I would also like to have the larger door, but they are not interchangeable.
Regarding the gutter, I have also been looking for one to go over the door. Even though we have a door awning, water still drips on the stairs. This is caused by a row of holes across the awning about an inch from where it is attached. That is the way the awning was manufactured.
Yes, we have the large closet across from the shower, but we have have the washer/dryer combination in the bottom closet. Fortunately, it is vented to the outside and dries clothes very nicely.
Our Tradewinds has the walnut wood, which we like very much. We're also thinking about putting down a Pergo floor where the carpet is in the living area.
Another thing I might mention, our sink and bathroom fixtures are bone color. I found an excellent porcelain touchup glaze that matches at Home Depot to fix a couple chips in the kitchen sink. It is called Porc-a-fix. It comes in bone and white, small bottle with a brush about $4.
HOpe this helps.
Larry

Hi Larry,
Mine is not the LTC, so when you say bottom closet for the w/d are you referring to the bdrm closet that has the drop down?
On the problem you are having with water on the stairs; would the peel and stick plastic rain gutter at camper world work? Or are the holes you are talking about out too far for the gutter to catch the water?

We have a 2000 Sea View. We have the noise, too, but ours is due to the door being warped. We have tried adding foam around to make the seal tighter but this has only helped a little. Someday maybe we can afford a new door - which would require a new paint job

I think I have figured out where the wind noise is coming from. I was sitting here in Laughlin NV the other day and noticed that the top door latch doesn't fully close the door. I shut it hard and got up on a step stool and pulled the door where the top latch is. I could move it a little. So I think I will see if the striker will move in a little. I'll mark it with a pencil first so if it doesn't fix it I'll be able to put it back in place. Anyone else tried this??
