Winegard SK-SWM3 Slimline

Hi Everyone,

I want to replace my King Dome in motion with a Winegard Trav'ler. Has anyone done this with a Tradewinds by National? The roof is curved and I was wondering if that would compromise the mounting shape of the Trav'ler which is flat. I do not know if I would need the Trav'ler Mounting plate on the roof first. Any advice would be well received.

Frank

Frank, I had no trouble on my Dolphin. My Dolphin by National uses similar/same curve type roof. The center area you would mount to seemed flat enough to mount my slimline. I used a magnet to locate and pencil in the steel front to back roof frame rails that are about 14 inches apart, and one steel cross frame. Using those markings, I was able to get 5 to 6 mounting screw holes located over the steel frames. Caulking filled any gaps due to roof curvature.

Steel cross frame

Hi M & ME,

Thank you for your help. I had no idea of the steel cross frame.
1. Where can I get the magnet locator?
2. Also I read you got 5-6 screws mounted in the frame.
3. I see there are about 7 mounting screws. What about the other 1-2 screws just into the sheathing and fiberglass?
4. Also are the mounting screws compatible with metal or did you modify and or predrill?
5. What about the LNB in the retracted position, does in wear on the roof from vibration?

Frank I just used a very strong magnet purchased at HD. Sliding it across the roof you will feel it drag as it passes over any steel. I marked 3 or 4 points to judge the run of the metal frames. You will get the feel of it to guestimate the centerlines of the metal. Then lay out the antennae base to locate as many mounting holes over the metal frame lines.

The curvature is very slight at the roof center line. Mount the over steel screws first, pre drill the metal with small pilot holes, then do the rest into the non metal areas. As long as you have put a nice thick bead of sealant, the remaining screws will pull the wood/fiberglas to close the gap. Finally apply self leveling sealant over the screw heads and fillet base to roof.

Haven't notice any wear on the roof from LNB roller
