Hi All,
I purchase a used Winegard SK-3005 and finished repairing it and will now attempt to install it. My questions are: 1) is there a reinforced area on the roof on my 2005 Dolphin 5342? 2) My unit is used and did not come with screws, what size and how long are they.
Thanks ~ Bill

Bill,
When I installed mine I used the screws it came with. They measure .186" OD and are 1" long 5/16 hex heads sheet metal type.

What I did was use a magnet to locate the steel framing in the roof. I beleive the square tube steel is only 1" wide that NRV used to make the roof trusses. Can't remember now, but I think I also located a cross member near the front cap. You will find a parallel set of steel framing front to back spaced about 14 inches apart. These are where sky lights and roof ACs on pre 2004 were mounted.

Using the magnet frame locator I was able to get at least 4 and maybe 6 of the holes to align along the framing. Can't remember for sure.

I did not find any other steel reinforcement material..

Marty

I wasn't able to locate a metal frame to mount mine and just mounted it to the roof using the screws supplied. "M&EM" has described the screws correctly. I just pre-drilled with a very small drill bit and then screwed them into the fiberglass and the wood. It's traveled over 6000 miles with no issues.
As you can see, I left the KingDome in place but for the life of me, I can't remember why I did that. I guess I wasn't too sure this thing would work. It has yet to fail me.

Hi guy's,

Thanks for the info. I had only one place it would fit due to ham radio antennas so I could not position it over any metal studs either. There may be one under it and I may be able to drill a hole in the aluminum plate and catch a stud. Just makes me a bit uneasy but WInegard says it is not necessary. I was going to use mollie bolts but was told they were not necessary. So mine is secured like Kent's just to the roof. I got to believe the sealant will help secure it as well. Anyway it's installed. Still need to modify the entertainment cabinet to hold the bigger receiver. I will attempt that tomorrow. It took me longer to fix the motor drive in the antenna then it did to install it. Oh well!

Thanks again guy's, save travels,
~Bill

To all,
When I installed my Trav'ler, I used the optional SKA-008 mounting plate. It helps distribute weight on the roof, and when it stows the roller does not touch the roof.
