2007 Allegro Bus Fuel & Temp Gauges

Hi everyone!

Well, I'm the proud owner of a 2007 Allegro Bus 40QSP which I just drove back to Denver from Phoenix.

Having only owned an old gas motorhome, this has been quite the upgrade.

I noticed two things on the 900 mile trip home. The temperature gauge was well past the middle and after topping off the fuel, the fuel gauge only showed 3/4 full.

I'm guessing that the fuel gauge is just not calibrated (hope that's not expensive, but not holding my breath). I worry a bit about the temperature gauge. I read a whole host of posts here on the topic. I don't know if I have the larger radiator, and I didn't play with the gears when going up-hills. But it was only 40 degrees out, a far cry from 100 degrees trying to go over the continental divide pulling a 6k lb Jeep JK, so that's what has me worried.

The coach did come with two years left on a US Warranty, so I'm hopeful if it does need a few items that will cover them.

I plan to take it into TransWest in Frederick as soon as it's registered, but thought I'd first get some opinions.

Many thanks...

Andre

Welcome to IRV2 and welcome to Tiffin products.

Your first concern should be the temperature gauge - is it correct or is the actual temperature lower. Rear radiator coaches can get very dirty, partially block radiators. You can clean it yourself with SimpleGreen (get the one rated for aluminum) and a hose. You will need to soak both sides of the radiator. Do search and get the correct instructions. If you continue to have issues, take it to Freightliner - and it might get expensive to correct.

The fuel gauge has probably been wrong since the coach was new. Freightliner can try and adjust it, but you might want to just live with it.

There is a website focused on Tiffins - www.tiffinrvnetwork.com if you need additional help. Mostly Tiffin owners and some real good experts who are willing to help you.

Andre, congratulations on the new bus and welcome to IRV2. A good investment would be a ScanGuage D which connects to the OBD port and will give you exact temperature readings as well as other engine information. They are only about $159 and well worth the price. The temp gauge could be wrong, but you definitely need to find out. Mine normally runs below the 1/2 way mark unless climbing, but doesn't go past the mark until the temp reaches about 205.

As for the fuel gauge, they are notoriously inaccurate plus you may not have gotten it full. Unlike gas, diesel fuel will foam up when you are filling if you are pumping it in pretty fast. Unless I put the last 20 gallons in very slowly, mine will shut off prematurely and only show 3/4 tank or so.

Thank you. I will investigate. I do plan to hit Freightliner and have them check it.

Guages

Welcome. I also bought the same model here in Houston. in January of this year. Some hints i have used is using Sea Foam for the diesel tank.
Cleans out the engine components. Other RV'ers have different products they use. Made the generator run smoother and quieter than before. Mine had been sitting for a few years and wanted to start out with my normal maintenance. Don't for get to get some slide lube as well as your rubber gasket softener. Keeps the gaskets soft .

My temperature gauge works but takes a while to get up. I have all the fluids changed also. Just had to have a solenoid replaced at Cummings for the generator. Tiffin says they go out sometimes. Had Good Sam and paid $250 for my deductable.
Now have issue with batteries drain on house batteries. Still working on that issue. The batteries were 6 years old, That is the normal time frame that I am told.
Hope this gives you some insight now!

Good luck.
