Have a chance to look at a 34TGA FRED 300 hp.cummins, question is how noisy is the FRED compared to a rear engine
, also how does the freightliner chassis handle, before I drive 5 hours to check it out, last diesel was a 38ft Monaco 330isc handled terrible!

No question that the front end diesel or gas engine is more noisy in the driver area than the rear end engine but most noticeable when pulling up a steep incline. Traveling down the interstate in cruise not very noticeable. It doesn't have air bags or air brakes but is stable on the road and is not pushed around by passing tractor trailers. On secondary roads the ride is somewhere in between a typical gas coach and air ride coach. Some Tiffin's had water issues with wet Bay floor, driver side main slide floor, and roof side rail and we're repaired by Tiffin so that is something to check out. Overall, we have been pleased with ours.

Ours has been great. We changed out the OEM shocks for Koni's. There is a give to get, springs and squish brakes vs air and air brakes you get diesel power and lower cost. I find the ride and handling is even better when towing.

I would think that 2008-2009 the engine is a 340 HP 6.7L cummins?

We have a 2008 Tiffin FRED. It CAN be noisy whenever the turbo is working (either boost or brake). I don't care. After adding a SCANGAGE D, I was able to monitor my moment-to-moment fuel usage and modify my driving to get about 10-13mpg fully loaded with cargo and toad. This is important to me because we are full-time and diesel can get pretty pricey in some states.

I only drove our rig once in it's original "stock" factory configuration before I modified the suspension/handling. As I remember, it drove pretty well. Since then, I have added upgraded front/rear sway bars, KONI Shocks, a self-made TRAC bar and SUMO helper springs. It drives great.

I also re-insulated the doghouse and floor, which has helped to some extent with the noise. I will probably add some more e-dead to the floor near the turbo. But, honestly, I love our rig so much I'm more than willing to deal with a little noise.

I recommend a test drive to judge for yourself.

Our rig is a 2008 and it has the 6.7 tuned to 300HP. It could be goosed to 340 but the tranny isn't rated for that kind of firepower.
