2008 Allegro Bay noise on test drive

My wife and I test drove a 2008 Allegro Bay 35TSB on the Workhorse 25.5 chassis. While everything about the motorhome fit our needs I was concerned about a noise that kept fading in and out while driving on the highway. The noise was coming from the doghouse and sounded like a harmonic noise. The unit is a consignment unit so the dealer won't look at it unless we were actually buying it. I talked to the owner of the coach and he said that it was the cooling fan coming on and off. I looked under the coach and the fan is mechanical not electric. Has anyone had any experience with such a noise?

I think the owner is right. I'm not sure where you are (geographically speaking) but the warmer it gets the longer the noise will continue because the fan runs much longer.

The cooling fan on the 8.1L engine on the Workhorse chassis is very loud when it comes on. The fan is a viscous drive (I think) that kicks in when the engine starts to work hard and the air temperature is warm. We were recently driving in 90+ degrees, and the fan even came on just driving on the level.

I'm in agreement with Elkhartjim - there's a good chance it's the fan.

If you're really serious about the coach and the only way to get them to check it out is to sign on the dotted line, make sure the satisfactory resolution of the noise is specifically mentioned in the sales agreement.

I have the exact coach and we get an annoying noise above 50 mph. This is a design problem and the grill is the culprit. Tiffin is aware of the problem and supposedly designed a fix with a replacement grill. Others have requested this grill (I have not) but complain that it's still making noise. I am experimenting with quieting mine, but the noise persists.

Grill Harmonics

I fixed mine which made a lot of noise at around 50-60.
I bought a roll of door trim( the kind you use on car doors) and put it on all the fins making them round on the edge and that took care of the noise.
Nice chrome look to the front also.
