2008 Allegro Bus Comments Needed

Hello all,

I am in the process of looking for a used diesel pusher in the 2005 to 2008 year range. One of the coaches I have found is a 2008 Allegro Bus 40 QSP with 54,000 miles. I have spoken to the owner, seen pictures and viewed specs/upgrades concerning this coach.

But I hope to hear from Tiffin owners with this unit or experience with a similar one before I make the drive to go look at it. Any comments good or bad would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ben

Next time you talk to the owner, ask him if he has had any of the "big three" repaired. These were problems that affected most Bus and Phaeton units built from 2008 to 2012 and repaired for free (if you brought you coach to Red Bay or another assigned repair station). The areas affected were the roof rails (the curved portion), the wet bay floor, and the driver's side main slide floor.

I believe that Tiffin has discontinued free repairs in all of the areas by now but will still do them if requested. Of course, you would have to pay for the repair but check with Tiffin.

I will ask him this week when I talk to him. One of the advantages of this coach is that it is within a 1.5 hour drive of Red Bay. It should have made it easier on the owner to take it back to Tiffin for recalls/repairs.

If you call Tiffin with the VIN number, they should be able to check the records and let you know what/if anything was done to the coach.

2008 Allegro Bus

I purchased an '08 in 2012 and traded it in in 2014 for an AB 37AP but not because the 08 was "bad", the 37AP just had more features that I wanted. The 08 developed a crack in the side shell. Tiffin didn't want to pay the fiberglass folks here in Ft Worth what they wanted so I took a trip to Red Bay. Tiffin repaired the crack to the point you couldn't tell it was ever there, also put new roof rails and wet bay floor all under warranty. To be honest, the 08 had far fewer problems than the 2014 new bus. Anything after 2010 needs DEF and that means more stuff to break down.

I have a 2008 Allegro Bus 42 QRP. I bought it about 2 years ago. It had 45,000 miles on it. It has been a great coach for us.

Only had minor wear and tear issues like replacing the air conditioner belt and replacing the vacuum backflow value for the black tank. The passenger side windshield wiper arm broke off in a recent rain storm. There was a recall on the wiper arms. I will contact Tiffin about that.

We now have trouble with the one of the cooktop burners staying lighted. I will have a propane guy check it out.

We have done some convenience and interior aesthetic modifications like installing a residential refrigerator, changing the window valences and lambrequins, installing new carpet and converting all the interior lighting to LED.

I plan to upgrade the tv in the front and the bedroom before we go full time next year.

I will have to check on the “big 3 issues” mentioned in a prior post. So far, I am not aware that I have these problems.

It am very pleased with the coach. I scratch my head when I read of all the problems people are having with the later models.

I had a 2007 40’ Bus QSP for 4 years and 30,000 miles. Great coach for full-timing, no particular negative issues. We traded it in to downsize to a 2011 Breeze 28 BR because we are not full-timers and wanted something more manageable for shorter, back-country trips.

I also have a 2007 40' QSP. Coach has 76K on the clock. We've had it for about two years and had very few problems. Have changed out the Nevercold to a residential fridge and now have rock hard ice cream and cold beer. Have installed a 54" lift 4K TV on the driver slide and a 32" LED in the bedroom. Replaced front radio speakers. Still drives like a dream!

Good Luck with your purchase, you'll enjoy the Tiffin!
