2010 Phaeton 42QBH Questions

Hello!
My husband & I are bumping from a class c to a diesel pusher and have been seriously considering a 2010 leftover Phaeton 42 QBH.
After reading some posts here i have a few questions that I am hoping someone with first-hand experience can help me with.
First, are there any inherent problems with this model? I know to expect a "shake-down" period on any new coach, but are there any concerns with the Phaeton line of RV?
Also, I have read alot about weight. I am a bit concerned that the FL/Cummins 260HP engine is not powerful enough to move this rig. We most likely will not be hauling anything on the back.
I understand the lag going uphill cannot be avoided.
Any other input would be greatly appreciated! It is a huge expense not to get it right the first time around.
Thanks in advance,
Beth

I can't address the pros/cons of a Tifffin but I can suggest that for a 42' coach at 260 HP it is severly under powered. A couple in a coach next to us have a 38' with a 330 and they are not happy with the performance. At about 33-3600# you are on the edge of the engines ability. You state you are not going to tow anything, but in time I think you will change your mind and want to tow a toad. With a 260 HP engine it will be working at almost capacity all the time. I personally would pass on this one and look for another in at least the 350 HP range.

260?

I looked up the specs for the 2010 model, 360hp, not 260. The 2011 is 380.

That's more like it. Couldn't imagine anyone putting a engine that small in a 42 footer!

I don't know much about them but it's a left over should be in the 35% discount price range.

Rooster--
Close to it! That is why we are considering...we were looking at smaller ones, but this seems like a great deal.
Its just a lot of money--want to 100% sure!

Tiffin Phaeton motorhomes have been the best selling model of diesel pusher motorhomes for the last four or five years. Compare feature to feature, compare quality and you cant to better than one of these.

Frankly I am surprised there are any new 2010 Phaeton units still available.

I think it's a very nice coach but would worry about the lack of power if your pulling something . If your satisfied with the power then go for it . It's a beutiful coach

The Cummins 360 has 1050 ft lbs of torque. I went back and forth across the rockies with my 350 CAT w/850 ft lbs torque pulling a 5,000 toad. A little slow going up some hills but I passed more trucks on them than passed me. We've enjoyed our Phaeton. Spent a couple of weeks in GA & SC last month including the FMCA rally in Perry and chassis service at Freightliner in Gaffney. Leaving next week for a three week run in Texas. Now I'm pulling 5900 lb GMC 4X4 PU.

we've had ours for three and a half years now and put 31,000 miles on it, of which many, many are in the mountains. we tow a 4700 pound Grand Cherokee. You will have no problems whatsoever with this set up, just don't try racing anyone up a steep incline. We are considering trading ours on a 2011 Revolution with the 450 hp / 1250 lbs. torque ... I drove the Revolution a few times and while there is a noticeable difference in pulling power it's not as great as you might think. In my opinion the 42' tag from Tiffin is the best "deal" in the Industry - remember, it comes on the Spartan MM chassis which, I think, is the best there is.
