2010 Phaeton Check Engine Light On

Yesterday after around five hours of driving on Interstate 10 the check engine light came on. I pulled into a truck stop and shut down. After around 20 minutes I started her up and light was off. Drove another hour to my destination and it stayed off. When I was backing into my spot the engine was running rough but the light was still off. We are leaving Monday morning so I guess I will be playing it by ear.

Around three hours before the light came on I had filled the tank and it took 74 gallons. That is the first time I had run the fuel down that low. That was the first fill in around a month as we have not been moving around much.

I'm not sure what to expect next.

You might start by checking the fuel filter/water seperator to see if maybe you got a bad tank of fuel contaminated with water. Changing fuel filters could help to resolve this problem.
