ON my 2013 Phaeton I slide in a 8' folding ladder(it folds into 8' x 4"x4") on the passenger side and on the driver's side I carry the fresh water hoses and DEF storage can in the narrow bay.
The DW purchased large clear HD Plastic storage bins that fit 3 perfectly in that narrow storage bin. I feel pretty good about giving her that entire bin for her own things.
