2011 Powerglide Chassis Safety Repair

We own a 2011 Phaeton QBH on a PG Chassis and have driven about 6000 miles so far this year. We were recently notified by Tiffin of a saftey issue concerning the exhaust pipe being routed near the floor of the coach and being a potential fire hazard. Tiffin sent us the instructions for repair and two thermal barriers. We are scheduled to have the repair made at a nearby shop that works on PG chassis' but does not work specifically on motorhomes. The factory arranged for the repair and is covering the costs. We are driving cross country to TX in Nov and will stop at the factory to have a leaking window fixed. I would rather have the factory make this repair, but am concerned about the safety aspects.
Has anyone had the repair done on their coach? If so any comments or thoughts on degree of difficulty, results, etc. Many Thanks!!

The first thing I would do is find another repair shop. If the shop you are scheduled with tells you they work on PowerGlide chassis but not specifically on motorhomes, some thing is wrong. The only place you can find a PowerGlide chassis is on a Tiffin motorhome. The second part would require knowing how much you use the coach before traveling to Red Bay. If that is your only trip, I'd most likely wait. If you are using the coach every day, I would think differently.

We only use the coach occasionally and not for long trips. We plan one short trip to Gettysburg (2 hrs 1 way). Then in Nov will travel to TX via Red Bay

I don't believe the modification is all that complicated that a normal truck shop couldn't do the work. I would recommend that you have it done as soon as possible. Thay have had a coach burn and that is the reason for the modification. Take a look at A Part of the TiffinRVNetwork • Information & A Part of the TiffinRVNetwork • Login .

From what I read, the modification is relatively simple. Many owners are doing it themselves. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, Tiffin will frequently authorize a non-Tiffin (or in this case, a non-Power Glide) repair shop to do repairs if you're a long way from an authorized dealer. Any competent motorhome repair shop should be able to handle the mod.
