2016 Phaeton - Magnum AGS Control

Enabled AGS to turn on generator when falls below 11.9V & set to run for 1 hr. Seems to work.

However, more than once, I've gone to check later in day (when generator is off ) "AGS Control" & it's been disabled.

I am very careful not to disable it while I'm checking, so need to know why / how it's disabling.

Sometimes, during the AGS initiated 1 hr generator run I will turn off generator using on / off switch on the dash. Could this throw AGS into disable?

Between automatic runs, sometimes I'll manually turn on the generator for 30 - 40 minutes, then turn it off. Could that disable the auto-start?

Any other ideas? Trying to figure out if user error or if I need it serviced?

Thx!

Yes, when you manually stop the generator, it turns off the autostart. See the ME-AGS-N manual, page 53

YES

to disable this 'feature' - go into your Magnum panel settings for AGS, under the 'TYPE' setting, change it from 'RV' to 'Other'.
This provides for the AGS to remain in Enable mode, even if you turn it off manually after the AGS has already started the generator. In essence, disabling the disabling!

most of us learn this by the same process you have - it is certainly NOT intuitive that the setting option of RV and OTHER would be this way, since you are, after all, in an RV!

I'm concerned that you're setting the AGS to only run for an hour and keep the battery charge up. With over 3000 hrs on our Onan 10k generator, charging 3 8D AGS batteries, we sčem to need about 2 1/2 hrs daily when dry camping. Of course, if using more power, such as the ACs or microwave, we run the generator far more. As I said above, we have 3000 hrs on our generator since 2010.

What's nice about installing the Magnum BMK and ARC-50, is you can change the way the AGS works. For instance, you can have it trigger ON if the battery bank gets below 60% of capacity, and turn OFF when it achieves a state of charge of 85%. Values are all adjustable, and you know exactly how much capacity your batteries have.

I thank you for this answer, I also set my AGS to " auto therm" and even though I do not use the dash button it still reverts back to the OFF position,,

maybe now I can get it to stay enabled....

thanks

newbie question

Hi all,

I have a question. We are new to all this so excuse me if this is stupid but, in the manual it says to turn off all items that will draw power from the generator before turning the generator on and then again before turning it off. If you set up the AGS to turn the generator on and off automatically how do you insure nothing is on when it starts and stops? Thanks!

time delay, A/c units will not start until Gen is running, and a/c units shut down and off. then Gen will idle down and shut off long as there is no demand for any power anything again,

Thanks Slice!

So let me get this straight, the ACs simply won't start unless the generator is already on (or hooked up to electric)? And the ACs will turn off automatically before the generator is scheduled to shut down (I'm working under the assumption that I program the generator to run automatically through the AGS)? I guess if you are hooked up to electric there would never be a reason to run the generator so a scenario like that isn't worth worrying about.

What about the fridge? Is the draw too low to worry about turning it off and on with generator use or does it also turn off and on when using the AGS to run the generator? I think I read that some people don't worry about the fridge being on or off when they start and stop their generators.

As you can see, I'm worried about messing up my transfer switch or whatever it is in the generator that gets screwed up when you start and stop it while running things that put a load on it.

Thanks
