2018 37PA engine noise

When standing in back of my rig while the engine is running, I hear a metalic click in an even spacing between clicks, almost like the clicking sound of a standing Grandfather clock with a pendulum. Is this a natural sound of this engine?

Ford?? This is a cummins diesel engine and the sound I am describing is very audible and distinct. Also, the reason for the post is to see if anyone else has this engine noise and tell me if it is normal or not so that I do not have to make a trip to the service center.

Sorry, sorry, sorry!!!. My mistake - I thought the coach was a 34 PA which is not a Red.

Back to your issue. Does the sound change when the engine RPM changes? I.E., does the clicking go faster? Also, is this on a cold engine or is it warmed up?

A stuck lifter will give you a tapping sound but it will change with RPM and usually goes away when the engine warms up.

If the sound occurs at any RPM and doesn't change with engine RPM or temperature, I'd start looking in the cabin for something rubbing on something else.

I will do a test regarding the parameters you mentioned and will get back in the next day or so to let you know when the sound occurs. I am fairly certain it is engine and not cabin noise. Thanks for your input.

I don't know if this applies to your RED, but our 380 Cummins does the same thing. Several people with 380s have reported this and have been told it's normal and related to the emissions system. Yours is the first report I've hear about the 360s though.

I just started the engine and it appears that it does not make that noise with a cold engine running. The times I have heard it in the past was with an engine running for several hours.

It could be the injectors making that noise.

I have the exact same clicking. Sounds like it is coming from the right rear storage compartment areas. I asked about it a couple months back with no success. It does not change with RPM change. It is not injectors because the click is to slow. Its not lifter because it does not change with RPM. I hear it cold or hot. I just gave up and assumed it is normal.

Whom did you ask about it a few months ago? Do you think we should take it to a Cummins service center?

If it’s in the right rear area, that is usually when the DPF is located. Could be the DEF metering system.

I'm sorry. Let me clarify. I asked on the forum; not Cummins

DEF is located in the Left rear side on a 18 40AH.

DPF not DEF tank, unless Tiffin moved the exhaust pipe for one model.
