2019 Allegro Bus IP first trip review
We recently took delivery of our 2019 40IP Allegro Bus. I wanted to give a quick overview of what we have experienced and learned.
We originally decided to order the new Bus due to the larger cargo bay height and the IP floorplan. The IP floorplan features a flat floor, larger master suite with his & her sinks and a larger shower than our 2011 Bus had.
We drove from Dallas to Tucson AZ for a few weeks stay. We weighed the Bus, fully loaded with 150gal of fuel, 100gal fresh water, 100 lbs in the short passenger side bay, 700 lbs in the front pass through bay and 300 lbs in the rear pass through bay, plus clothes and groceries we were 1,400 lbs under max weight. The 2019 Bus is heavier than our 2011 Bus, so the newer Bus does not accelerate as quickly, but it’s no slouch. The ride of the 2019 Bus is superior to the 2011 Bus as we noticed less side to side roll with the 2019. The 2011 Bus had Koni shocks installed, I think the 2019 ride is better even with factory shocks.
The electronic dash of the new Bus is very handy, I have the right hand gauge set to scan through several gauges to keep an eye on engine & transmission performance. The driver and passenger seats are very comfortable and the heat setting was welcomed on our early morning departures.
The first day drive was 540 miles into about a 15-20mph quartering headwind. With the cruise on 65mph, it was uneventful, nice and smooth, just like I prefer. The second day drive was 460 miles into a similar wind, yet again, uneventful.
When we got parked and got the slides out, the coach immediately felt like home. We do have less interior storage space in the 2019 Bus, will have to get used to that. One thing we realized is that the overhead cabinets in the 2019 Bus have been reduced in height, you cannot stand a 3 ring binder up in the cabinets (they need to be about 1” taller, Tiffin, are you listening?) The larger holding tanks (grey and black) were welcomed, we have to dump less frequently. I am in and out of the cargo bays about 6 to 10 times a day and the bigger bays are a great feature. The electric cargo slides mean less bending over and head banging on the slide outs. The full length Girard awnings provide a huge shaded patio for sitting out, eating and visiting.
We did find some problems that need to be corrected at Red Bay:
There is a rattle over the passenger front slide (metal on metal)
The shower door seems to be misaligned and the little rubber seal tore off
The Aqua Hot is slower to provide hot water than our 2011 was
One of the electric day shades does not come down
I did install a TST tire pressure monitoring system, a Rexing dash cam and cargo bay dividers and shelves. We had some Coach Proxy issues, but with excellent support from Coach Proxy and by providing more amps to the Coach Proxy unit, this seems to be resolved.
The 1,000 mile drive home was uneventful, fuel mileage for the trip was 7.5mpg and we burned about 5 gallons of DEF during the trip. The last 500 mile leg had less headwind and fuel mileage was 7.8mpg.
Is this a perfect motorhome? No, our list of things we would change is pretty short though.
