Just came home from trip. Have Chev 454 engine in Motor Home. Battery has low charge state. Can't seem to get them to charge up.
Everything works except steps are real slow and jacks will not work. Any suggestions on what could be causing the problem?

We have done that. Have put a charger on it. so will see what happens

Still having problem with house batteries. Have unit plugged in to electricity, but still does not show full charge on batteries. I am new at this , so not sure how to run down the problem. Had no problem on trip last weekend, but now batteries will not charge to full capacity. What am I doing wrong?

Is your house power switch on? I don't know what you use to turn your coach power on/off, mine has a rocker switch for disconnect and connecting.

In your coach, with the coach power ON and your unit plugged IN, your house batteries should be getting charged from a device in there that does this function. It also is the device that makes the 12 volts available to the coach and converts the 120v to that 12v DC.

If you house batteries are NOT recharging when shore power is connected, it could be the cable connections to the batteries, the batteries themselves OR the converter. Of the three, the converter and batteries are the most costly.

I found a reset button for the circuit and it seems to be working okay now. Don't have any idea why it went off.
We did run the generator so we could have air on the way home from our trip. Thanks for your response to my problem. We have had fifth wheels before, but first time for a Motorhome.

What do I use to spray on the hydraulic jacks. Someone on the forum mentioned something they bought at Lowe's but I can't find it now.

Be careful using something like WD40 or other spray on lubricants on the hydraulic jacks because sometimes the petroleum stuff in the spray on lube deteriorates the O-rings in the jack.

Not saying the stuff that was/is recommended will do that, but be careful!

Here is my troubleshooting sequence:
1.Assume the battery power solution did not remedy the jacks? House batteries must be very good strength for the system to operate. You can depress [and hold]the "auxilliary start" button to connect both vehicle and house batteries for a temporary boost of power.

2.When you try to retract the jacks, do you hear any sounds, does control panel even light up? The"store" indicator should be lit when depressed and ignition switch in "accessory" position. No evidence of power here is probably a local fuse box search or wiring to this dash panel. If button is lit but no sound: check the accessory switch interlock must be well-seated as well. Try cranking the engine & then "store" button.

3.The under-body control box will have LED indicators and 5 amp fuses visible thru the plexiglass cover. Handbook will have guide to which & HWH tech will want to hear which indicator lights you witness. They have a toll-free number on the user manual cover.

4.HWH Fluid resovoir level is checked with the jacks retracted "up" in parked position. ie, Is meaningless to check dipstick with the jacks extended. When "storing" the electric solenoid valves open and the spring tension alone causes the jack rams to retract. There should be some sound and activity, heat of the solenoids when you depress the "Store" button.

5.If no activity....Inspect the grounding wires from hyd. pump motor and solenoids. Loose or corroded connections here will have affect.

6.Regarding wipe-down of rams: not WD-40; but silicon spray or common transmission fluid [ATF] as that is what the HWH resovoir holds. Wipe-it-on and wipe it completely "off". You're not trying to lubricate...but merely wipe it clean before retracting.
