Allegro DC woes

Heya fellas. Still tinkering around with the '85 33 1/2 Allegro. Things aren't going too bad but with cold weather kicking in again.. I'm finding myself with an issue that if I dont ask for help I'm gonna wind up sick all winter.

I'm Pretty sure that the converter is running pretty weak as it gives me 2 bars on the guage and the lights dont get all that bright. When it switches over to batteries... WOW what a difference.. However. From time to time it switches to converter when i need it on battery, and wont switch back. When on converter there isn't enough power to run my heater, but when it decides to sit on battery the heater runs Amazingly.

The question i have is... wheres the relay that goes between the two? If i have to wire it to disable the converter I wont cry about it. but Im not entirely sure where the relay is so that i can test it to see if theres something wrong with it. If anyone has any ideas to try i would greatly appreciate it. I would go and replace the converter but im still at that point of next to no money coming in so i can't really afford it at this time.

I've never heard of a relay between using converter and batteries. Usually, it's running off batteries all the time and any charge coming from the cnvtr if it's there. But, this was also built before I was born, soooo maybe that's why I haven't heard of it haha
