I have averaged 7 mpg over the past 4,000 miles. This is always towing a Honda accord on a tow dolly, and running the generator to power the roof a/c, Refridge, etc.

If I slowed down it would improve.

I just finished a four month tour of Florida. I didn't even attempt to keep track, I figured it would be just too depressing. Besides, this is a new MH and if I got 7 mpg or 8 mpg there is nothing I would do about it one way or the other.
Down the road if I add something like a Five Star I'll do a before and after mpg check.

MPG will depend on a lot of things.

Which Allegro Open Road do you have and which chassis is it on?
How fast do you drive?
Do you tow?
Where are you driving? (Mountains/plains)

Most will say they average 7 to 9 mpg.

Our 2006 Allegro Open Road is 35'6" long on the Workhorse chassis with the 8.1L engine. We do not tow and when I have bothered to check the mpg it usually averages 8 MPG driving at an average of 65 mph on fairly flat roads.

MPG is probably not a good comparison point for the gas vs diesel decision. Some diesel rigs will get worse, some the same, and some better than the gas units. Compare fuel prices, maintenance costs, cost of acquisition, etc. if you want a true comparison. MPG is trivial.

If you truly want better fuel mileage, a diesel B class would be the way to go.

My 2011 Red must be broke. I have been getting a little over 10MPG pulling a Hyundai Accent. I run in 6th gear at 1650 RPM. Most of the time with Cruise on.

We don't buy these big moving boxes to worry about MPG. I concern myself with just how much it will cost to fill the tank, so I just look for the easiest gas station to enter with the lowest possible price.

Happens all the time: I'm filing up my thirsty beast and a guy walks up to me and asks, sometimes politely, "how is the MPG on that thing"? My usual friendly response goes something like this..." I don't know, and don't really care, but I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night." They usually walk away scratching their head.

Actually, I have had some really nice conversations with some folks after we started talking about traveling, camping, etc. I camp in Key West, Fl quite often. It blows their mind when I tell them that we camp at NAS Key West, Sigsbee Park for $21.00 a night and the folks in the local hotel are paying $150.00 a night minimum during low season.

We towed a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with our '07 Open Road on a Ford chassis. We averaged 6.5 mpg for most of the 30k miles we put on it before trading it in.

The other good thing you don't have to Worry about Bed Bugs. We live in So Arizona and it also depends about Head Wind or Tail Wind. We just went and came back from Yuma and got 7 1/2 to 8 but we came down Texas Canyon and had Head Wind and on the way back we went back up Texas Canyon. We had cross winds on the 8. DH goes around 60. We don't worry about the Gas as like someone else said it is a Big Box going down the Road with Car in tow.

Just some additional input. Just drove from Van Horn Texas to Texarkana, Ar via I-10, 20, 30, . 20 miles per hour winds average.
Towing a Buick Enclave, driving an OpenRoad Red 34 -2013 at an average
speed of 65 mph. 9.7 mpg.
