Tiffin uses two types of switches to control the door. Early models, up to about 2012, used a magnetic reed switch. I believe all models 2012 onwards, use a simple push button switch. At times, this switch can become dirty and stick halfway between open and closed or it can become slightly misaligned and not work either.

You can easily push this switch with your finger to make sure it is lined up properly and to keep it from sticking, you can give it a shot of silicon spray. These switches are often installed with a shim under them as well so make sure that is still in place.

I'm unclear about the location of the fuse you checked, but getting battery level voltage when the switch is "off" seems odd. If you are using a digital meter, the numbers jumping all over the place are probably a sign of an ungrounded or "floating" connection to the voltmeter. In that situation the wires you are touching serve as antennas picking up whatever stray voltage is in the air. Something is strange about the wiring. You need a wiring diagram to trace the ground(s) for the step mechanism and to make certain the door switch(es) are wired properly. Did you remove and test the actual fuse for continuity? If there are two fuses ... the motor clearly runs so that fuse must be ok ... maybe a second one for the control circuit is blown?

If you can verify the step brand and model I will try to look up a circuit for it. I'm guessing it is a Kwikee model (that is what I have on a 2014 34TGA) but there were some Lippert models on Tiffins too.

I have had to replace the motor on the bottom of the step when my was malfunctioning like yours. It's a DIY fix.

We had the same problem when picking up our new TGA. Tech worked 3 hours with RB on a cell phone to fix the problem. Sorry but I did not ask what the fix was.

My 2016 35QBA developed a problem with the step switch such that they wouldn't stay up when the door was closed. In experimenting with the switch on the door, slowly pressing it would have the step going up and down seemingly randomly through the range of the switch's throw. I called Tiffin parts, told them I had a bad switch, they asked for a picture of the faulty switch and sent me a new one. Replacement was a 1 minute operation and now my steps work as expected.

Most problems arise from the junky switch on door jamb. Could not get one much cheaper and I see they still use it on the new ones. Have taken mine apart 2 x to rebuild it. Seems fine for now. Hope to replace with a decent quality one if I can find a replacement.
