Allegro slides not working

I have a 2009 Allegro OpenR oad 34 TGA. All 3 slides work well except when they dont work at all. Some times they wont go out and sometimes they wont come in. After turning the ignition switch off and back on a number of times they will finally work again but I am afraid at some point they will leave me stranded. Does anyone know the source of this problem? I'm guessing it is an electrical problem but I don't know where to start. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

On our Allegro Bay, the slides won't operate when the ignition switch is on to prevent them from being deployed while going down the road. The interlock is achieved by means of a relay, which is located in the outside bay behind the passenger side wheel.

Having the slides work after turning the ignition switch off and on several times indicates to me you have a similar interlock and that the relay is hanging up and not always switching like it should. Ours did that on two occasions, and tapping on the relay with a screwdriver handle fixed it. However, if it is happening repeatedly, the best way to fix it permanently is to replace the relay - after checking for loose wires.

The interlock is also connected to the emergency brake. So, cycle the emergency brake and the ignition switch and then try it again.

Another possibility - Are your batteries fully charged? Stay connected to shore power until the slides are in.

I don't own a Tiffin but I always make sure the engine is running when I deploy or run in the slides, also the jacks. I've never had issues with either system, also make sure you lube the slide arms and rollers once a year or so. The interlock thing seems a logical issue in your case but I'd be inclined to contact the factory for some guidance. Hope you find out what the problem is...post when you do.

Additional Tip:

I agree with paz in “moderate tapping” onto the side of the relay housing in order to “unstuck” the contacts. [If you dont' know which relay, try tapping onto all three of them! ] Some knowledgeable experts on trvn forum have specified an alternative manufacturer for a higher-grade relay switch replacement in lieu-of the oem relay model number. Others carry a spare relay replacement for emergencies.

FWIW: ..Another work-around: using a standard heavy-duty battery jumper wire across the large wire terminals of the relay. This essentially ‘by-passes” the switching mechanism altogether so that you can get the coach settled or underway. But, you have to identify the exact relay that is causing the problem... [Have an observer monitor the slide's progress, while you make the cable contact in the basement bay.]
