Backup Camera operation

I bought a new 2018 Allegro bus last year and find it very strange that the back up camera and side camera's only work when the radio switch is turned on. I've had several big rigs in the past and this is the first coach that has a back up camera that is not connected to reverse. Does anyone else find this unusual?
According to Tiffin, this is the way it was installed on this bus.

Backup camera operation

If it was hooked up to reverse only (like an auto) you would not be able to have it on for rear visibility driving down the road. It is nice to be able to check your toad, or traffic behind you if needed.

Since I find the backup and side view cameras to be as valuable in forward use as they are in reverse, it seems reasonable to not restrict their use with a requirement to place the gear selector in reverse.

Edit - guess that's what Julie said.

That doesn't sound right at all. I have to believe something was wired incorrectly. Hopefully someone with the same model will chime in and give their experience.

On my 2016 Phaeton the backup camera comes on whenever the ignition is on. It switches to the corresponding side camera when I use either the turn signal, then returns to the rear camera once the turn signal goes off.

That must be something new for 2018, or yours was miswired. My camera is on with the ignition whether the radio switch is on or not. When you put it in reverse, there are some distance markers that come on that are not visible normally.

My 2018 45OPP Bus works the same. It is really nice to see behind rig and toad to know for sure you have clearance. Much better than using mirrors. I have had the same setup on 2 previous units. The having to turn on radio to have camera on is different but not a problem.

I think another call in to Tiffin is needed. It's obvious the camera isn't wired properly. Tiffin service and phone support is normally awesome but, occasionally, you get maybe a new person.

The reason the unit works the way it does is due to the camera is first ran into the audio unit, you can have the monitor off and still select camera on the audio screen and it is shown there. A good feature if monitor dies.
