Battery

2005 Allegro Bay. Replaced my chassis batteries 17 mths ago. Interstate deep cell. Batteries don't seem to be holding charge again. No warranty from Interstate over year. Am I doing something wrong? Did I damage batteries? Am I using correct battery? Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Chassis battery is typically not a deep cycle battery. Rather a starting battery. Deep cycle designed for lower, continuous current draw. Starting battery designed for high, short term current draw.

They sit under my steps. I have a different battery at engine. Did I explain it wrong? They run some electrical outlets and lights in living area.

Yes in your Original Post, you state Chassis batteries, those batteries under the steps are your House batteries.

I have 2 6v interstate batteries under my step, they are 4 years old.

When you park your RV, do you turn the House switch off? Its on the panel, left hand side as you enter the RV.

So far as any damage to your batteries only time will tell, you need to charge them up now though, preferably with a battery charger and not the RV. The reason is your inverter will have a hard and long time charging them up when they are discharge that low.

The batteries should be able to sit idle for at least a couple of months without a considerable discharge with the house switch set to off.

On my 2005 AB, with the house battery switch off, it will turn off all power, there are no loads running, including the LP detector.

No, but I'm full timer. So when I plug into pole, I should turn them off?

Sorry I did not know you were full timing and plugged in. Disregard the above post.

if you are plugged in the batteries should be charging.

Have you checked the water level in the batteries lately?

If you open the cabinet above the chair next to steps, is the inverter/charger panel. It should show that your inverter is charging and the state of your house batteries. Green blinking light

What makes you think they are not fully charged?

I boondocked over night. I barely got slide in due to low battery. I couldn't start engine if it is on slide won't work. I use flashlight at night and turn everything off when I boondock.

That display is not very accurate. Also if you are Full timing you are always using battery power, although I would think by morning the display would show full as you are not using that much power, unless you are using the furnace.

If you have a volt meter you can check to see if your inverter is putting out the correct charging voltage. Charging voltage should be around 13.5v

Also next to your battery display is the inverter panel, it also has lights on it to show you your battery status.

When you boondock, before bringing the slides in, start your generator, your generator will power your inverter thus charges your batteries and carrying the heaving load the slides put on your batteries.

Depending on where you are boondocking, you should run your generator for a couple of hours at least to recharge your batteries.

No furnace. In Daytona Beach Florida. That display shows green. I do have a volt meter but haven't learned how to use it yet... I have learned alot. I'll ask my neighbor to help me test it. I thought the word chassis meant house area. Sorry!

Thanks for your help. Is there a difference in 6v deep cell batteries? Lots of different prices.
